Battle at Home: Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus vs Micromax Canvas Knight A350

Micromax Canvas

The home-grown mobile handset brands including the likes of Micromax, Karbonn, Lava have significantly grown in the past 2 years. While the long standing leader in these markets Samsung Electronics (19 % market share in India) has been extending its Galaxy universe, these new challengers too are gradually inking their mark. Estimates and surveys too suggest that the market share of the multi-nationals including Nokia, Samsung, LG, HTC in India may reduce from over a third of the market to 45-50% in the coming years.

At the same time, being optimistic for our Indian developers, the Indian lads hold great potential and with premium launches every second day; these brands are indeed shaking the mantle off the biggies!

Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus (Launching in April)
While the handset is not yet available to the masses (Until April), Karbonn has officially launched the Smartphone.

Design- Apart from borrowing the sharp edged look from the Lumia, the Titanium Octane Plus looks distinctively elegant in both Black and White. Although it boasts only a 5 inch IPS Full HD Screen, the Smartphone looks larger owing to the excess spacing at the bottom. Speaker at the back end with a matt clear panel adds spice to its decent looks.

Specs and Features- The dual-sim Smartphone runs on the latest Android Version 4.4.2 Kitkat OS giving the user the best and latest android experience. Speaking about the hardware, it's packed with a 1.7 GHz Octa-Core processer (one of the firsts from Karbonn) on Mediatek chipset. Loaded with 2 GB RAM and internal storage of 16 GB, the memory is easily expandable up to 32 GB. The Full HD screen resolution of 1080X1920 with 441 ppi makes the viewing experience wonderful. Also the camera at 16 megapixel (mp) with LED flash and secondary camera of 8 mp looks promising. With great specs and advanced features courtesy Kitkat OS, what may disappoint a bit is its battery life of merely 2000 mAh.

Price and Competition- While the launching price has been announced at Rs 17,990 pitting it against other phablets in the under 20k range. Strong contenders to it include the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 which commands around 20k and also offers limited features. Others in competition are the Xolo Q3000 and the Micromax Canvas Knight A350.

Micromax Canvas Knight A350 (Launched in March)
Roaring with success and positive rumors, this is Micromax's own Octa-Core Smartphone competing and challenging the likes of the many sold at prices nearly double than itself.

Design- Micromax has a come a long way from its stereotype and standard designs to trendy fashionable devices. The Canvas Knight 350 especially the Full Black device looks a cutting edge gizmo on hand. The 'Black Beauty' as some may call it. The other colors, Black with Gold, White with Gold too look stunning.

Specs and Features- Boasting a 5 inch Full HD IPS screen, this dual sim Smartphone makes every penny worth with its 2 GB RAM, 25.5 GB internal memory (not expandable) and its 2.0 GHz Octa-Core processor with a Mediatek chipset. The 16 mp rear camera is also decent and features Full HD recording at 30 frames per second. The battery is decent with 2350 mAh power giving it around 8 hours of talk time and around175 hours standby time. The Knight Canvas however is still running on the Android 4.2 OS, thereby making it lag in terms of the latest Android experience.

Price and Competition- At Rs 19,990 the Canvas Knight is slightly commanding premium price over the Octane Plus and other competitors including the likes of the latest trending Moto G at Rs 14000.

Bottom line- Between the likes of the upcoming Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus and the gross selling Micromax Canvas Knight A350, it would be difficult to choose. While the Octane Plus has good camera features at an economic price, the Canvas Knight has looks and performance to die for. The durability of both has also been tested in these lands and the users are satisfied with both the product and after sales service.
